Some may say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but do you really want a synthetic chemical imitating the hormones in your body?
What are endocrine disruptors and why should you care?
They are synthetic hormone altering chemicals that play havoc in our body, meaning they are hormone mimickers. Increasing production of certain hormones, decreasing production of others, changing a hormone into a different hormone, interferring with signalling and competing with essential nutrients and the list goes on and on and can affect both men and women.
There are those present in plastics.
Those present in Pesticides and Herbicides.
Those present in industrial processes.
Those present in household furniture, paints, kitchen utensils
Those present in our food and water
And
Those present in our cleaning products and COSMETICS.
So we live in a pretty toxic world, however there are some SIMPLE CHANGES we can make to the choices we CHOOSE.
If we start with the food and water, think local, seasonal and organic. Organic not because its has more nutrients or tastes better, but simply because it has fewer pesticides and herbicides. When buying from a supermarket, try to get the loose fruit and veg and reduce the plastic packaging. Think about glass jars instead of the cans and then you can re-use the jars for storing. Consider getting a water filter, to cut down on plastic and reduce your shopping bills and eliminate certain toxic chemicals, that wreak havoc on the inside our kettles and do the same to our bodies.
The more whole food you eat the less processed, industrial chemicals will be present.
Another simple area to consider making some changes are in the cleaning products we use and most importantly in the hygeine and beauty products we put on our skin.
When we eat, to put it very simply, we at least have a stomach filled with acid to help break down the foods and toxins and the liver to help remove the toxins that our body wants to get rid off.
HOWEVER.. OUR SKIN IS LIKE A GIANT MOUTH, BUT WITHOUT ANY BARRIER OR PROTECOR.
What ever we put on our skin be it deodorant, shampoo, moisturiser, suntan lotions, perfum and makeup goes directly into our systemic circulation and can cause a whole host of hormone imbalances that wreaks havoc in our body if left unchecked.
Take the time to read the labels and understand what the chemicals are that you really want to avoid.
The website www.ewg.org has a lot of information on different chemcials and what you can do to avoid them.
If we can understand why our choices matter, and what the impact is in our body in terms of the symptoms of dis-ease you may be experiencing, be it psoriasis, asthma, joint pain, brain fog, fluid retention, bloating, etc etc, then we are much more likely to stick to our new choices..
